Beggars Night
After writing a comment about Beggars night, I decided to make my first post about Beggars night itself. Living in East Lovejoy, Beggars Night is a big thing here (as well as in Kaisertown). On October 30th, the day before Halloween (as you already know) everybody trick or treats. I sometimes wonder how everybody knows to do it, nobody ever comes out on real Halloween, just Beggars night. And they are still going around. I ran out of candy a half hour ago, so I can't imagine how much candy those other people bought (I had about 300 and gave about 1 to everybody...stingy, yes, but I didn't want to run out early...).
Well, anyways my real reason for writing this is (if anybody reads this, which I don't think they will) is to ask if you have ever heard of Beggars Night or came over to East Lovejoy or Kaisertown to celebrate it.

Back when the holiday was a danger, you know when if you didn't give out candy people played tricks things that I have never done but heard about, beggers night was pretty big. I can't remember if I went out on it, but the custom for a some people was a different costume each night. This was when kids where kids none of this "Safe Halloween" and moving it from a weds. to a friday. When I was a kid I never got why school didn't give you the next day off it would be a perfect day you can stay up and watch scary stuff and eat candy and so on. Back to the danger thing yes there where cities where all kinds of crazy stuff would go on for the holiday.

welcome to estrip. I think i remember celebrating that as a kid. My grandmother lived on gold st. Not sure if that is east or west lovejoy. I didn't even know there were halves.Permalink: Beggars_Night.html
